Hayley Walker - A.I.S.T.D.
Principal & Artistic Director

Hayley trained in England at The Arts Educational School, Tring Park (UK). She studied Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, ISTD Tap/Modern, Musical Theatre, Drama & Singing. Alongside her dance development she studied Dance History, Anatomy and teaching qualifications in Ballet (Cecchetti) ISTD Modern & Tap. Hayley has continued exams in the ISTD work and has received her Diploma in both the Modern & Tap syllabus. Hayley was Artistic Director at Stage West School of Performing Arts on Vancouver Island from 2001-2006. This is where she began to enjoy the idea of developing and creating a family friendly studio with the training to take students to their best potential. In 2003 Hayley went back to The Arts Educational School to work at a Professional Dance School to further her teaching career. Hayley quickly learnt BC was were she wanted to live and continue her career. Hayley oversees the development of each and every student at RNB Dance. She enjoys creating a supportive environment for the students and to help them reach their full potential as dancers and individuals.  

Brianna Giles- Prof Dipl.
Vice-Principal

Originally from North Vancouver, British Columbia Brianna began her dance career when she was eight years old at RNB Dance & Theatre Arts. Brianna is a graduate of the Vancouver Goh Ballet and the London Studio Centre (UK) with a "Professional Diploma" in Classical Ballet. Throughout her career Brianna has trained with many prestigious dance schools including the American Ballet Theatre (New York), The National Ballet of Canada, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, The Banff Centre for the Arts and the Vancouver Goh Ballet. In 2000 Brianna toured the United Kingdom and Germany as a Soloist with the Images of Dance Company performing roles such as The Milkmaid in Facade, Balanchine's Donizetti Variations and Jack Carter's Swan Lake. In 2001 she toured Japan and China as a soloist with the Vancouver Goh Ballet performing the Pas de Trois from Paquita and the Principal role of Kitri in Don Quixote. In 2002 Brianna decided to utilize her Jazz and Musical Theatre talents performing aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines with the Jean Ann Ryan Production Company of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Brianna can be seen as a dancer in the made for tv movie "The Goodbye Girl" featuring Everybody Loves Raymond star Patricia Heaton. She has also worked throughout the community representing RNB as a Dance Ambassador for lululemon athletica in West Vancouver. Brianna always knew she would be back in Vancouver one day sharing her experience and knowledge with the students of RNB Dance.

Charmaine Nobes - F.I.S.T.D.
Co-Founder

Originally from England, Charmaine holds her Fellowship in Modern Dance and her Licentiate in Modern Stage and Classical Balllet with the Imperial Society of Teachers in Dance. After enjoying a lengthy professional Stage and Film Career abroad Charmaine moved to North Vancouver and co-founded RNB Dance & Theatre Arts. Charmaine has been teaching Modern, Jazz, Tap and Ballet for many years. Her wealth of knowledge and vast experience in the arts makes her one of the North Shore's most sought after dance instructors.

Monica Proenca

Monica was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She went on to graduate from the San Francisco School of the Arts in the United States. As a professional dancer Monica has worked  with world renowned choreographers, both Classical and Contemporary. She has extensive knowledge in Ballet (Vaganova Technique), Contemporary (Floor work and release technique),Modern (Lester Horton- José Limon- Martha Graham) Afro Haitian and Jazz dance. As an accomplished choreographer and teacher that has taught and choreographed in San Francisco, USA for Lines Contemporary Ballet Program, for Germany's - Nordhousen Ballet Company, and in Spain, Japan, all over Brazil and Canada. Her choreography has been awarded in Brazil, USA, Canada, Antwerp, Varna, Austria, France, Spain, Japan, Czech Republic, Australia and Korea. In 2009, Monica co-founded Lamondance an International post secondary contemporary dance training and performance company for aspiring professional dancers. Monica was commissioned to choreograph pieces for the opening gala of the 60th Anniversary of the Beijing Dance Academy in China (Goh Ballet Youth Company) and a special piece to be presented at the opening of Tanzart Festival in Nordhausen, Germany. She was a nominee for the 4th Annual Inspirational Latin American Awards for Arts and Culture (2015) Monica recently choreographed Center Stage On Pointe produced by Sony Pictures the latest film of the successful series with stars such as Ethan Stiefel, Sascha Radestsky, Nicole Munoz, Barton Cowperthwaite and Chloe Lukasiak . Monica currently calls Vancouver, Canada her home where she continues to choreograph, produce, dance, teach, coach and inspire others with passion, strength and elegant technique combined with her own Brazilian flair.

Krista Savage - RAD RTS, B.Sc. (Hon) FNH

Krista's early training was with Katie Parks and Lesley Benham at the South Delta Studio of Dance. She later trained in the Professional Division at The Richmond Academy of Dance and also studied at the National Ballet School of Canada, Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Banff Centre for the Arts, and Montreal's L'Ecole Superieure de Danse du Quebec. While living in Montreal, she worked with company members of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and studied daily with Alexandra Wells, former principal dancer of Boston Ballet. Krista also obtained a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Food, Nutrition, and Health from The University of British Columbia, and, with a special interest in wellness and injury prevention, has conducted nutrition seminars for dancers. As well as performing many classical roles and completing advanced examinations while she was training, Krista holds her Teaching Certificate and Registered Teacher Status with the Royal Academy of Dance. For ten years, she taught at The Richmond Academy of Dance, and other schools in the Greater Vancouver area. She now coordinates and leads the Ballet Program at RNB Dance and Theatre Arts in North Vancouver, as well as continuing to guest teach and choreograph at a variety of schools in Western Canada. Her students have been consistently recognized for strong exam results, top awards in both local and provincial festivals, and have gone on to dance professionally. Krista has a true passion for ballet, and loves sharing this passion with young dancers!

Stephanie Johnson

Stephanie has been enjoying teaching dance for over 15 years. Originally from Edmonton, her Dance training began at the Edmonton School of Ballet followed by Shelley Tookey's School of Dance, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and New York City. Stephanie started her career as a competitive gymnast taking ballet classes on the side until her love for dance prevailed. She is a certified Gymnastics coach, an AFLCA certified fitness instructor and she holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Alberta. In Edmonton Stephanie taught dance, performed and choreographed for the Orchesis Dance Company and adjudicated at several local dance competitions until 2004 when she moved to Vancouver. She is now the proud mother of 2 and plays a huge role in mentoring the students at RNB Dance.

Chris Wong

Chris has established himself as a director and choreographer in Canada, currently co-director of "Culturally Defined" with his work partner Kyle Vicente. He has been professionally trained in all foundations of Street dance. His philosophy and curriculum emphasizes on using these techniques to find your identity as a dancer. As a competitor he has won 1st in Wild Card and Highest Score at Artist Emerge and 2nd at World of Dance, Chris' focus has since been away from competition dancing. He now finds satisfaction exercising his creativity and spreading his true passion for dance. In his words "Dance took me to a better place and helped me understand who I am".

Davi Rodrigues

Born in Brasilia, Brazil, Davi began studying dance at the age of 13. He studied physical education at the Universidade Catolica de Brasilia - UCB, Gymnastics at Clube Escola 01 de Taguatinga, and then danced for six years at Aplauso cia de Danca under the direction of Junior O'Hara in Taguatinga, DF. Davi studied ballet with the Ballet Theatre Guaira's Principal dancer "Heloisa Almeida" with whom he began his studies in classical ballet. In Canada in 2008 he studied Ballet with Li Yaming and Dolores Kirkwood and Contemporary with Lara Barclay and Monica Proenca. Davi has had an extensive career in dance, he is a multifunctional performer with an open mind to new ideas and concepts; with this he brings great energy and optimism to his choreography and dancing. He has choreographed eight original full-length dance shows for "Cia Criatividanca" in Brazil, a company he danced and directed for 15 years with which he won several awards throughout Brazil. In Brazil, he danced and choreographed for many companies, he was the choreographer of a catholic event called "Caminhada Mariana" for four years choreographing for about 40 to 70 youths. His work is also known in Germany, Madrid, Spain, and Colombia where he was invited to open the University Festival of Contemporary dance. In Canada, Davi choreographed for many schools like "Pacific Dance Arts", "Kirkwood Academy of Dance", "RNB Dance & Theatre Arts", "Northwest Academy of Performance and Arts", "C.A.P.A Dance & Drama School Inc." and "Lamondance" with which he is now Artistic Director. www.lamondance.com

Brenna Banks

Brenna started dancing at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love with it. She studied CDTA Acro, Jazz, and Tap along with Chechetti Ballet. Acrobatics quickly became her favourite class and at the age of 17 her teaching career began. She is a certified Acrobatic Arts instructor receiving over 95% in both Module 1 and Module 2 courses. Currently she in the process of completing her Acrobatque Certification. Over the years, Brenna has attended workshops and master classes at: The Dance Teachers Summit NYC, Northern Movement Acro Conference & The Vancouver Yoga Conference. Throughout her years Brenna has received choreography awards at Dream Team Dance Festival as well as Peak Invitational Dance Competition, Dance Power & Synergy. Brenna's students have also received numerous High Scores, Judges Choice, and Overall Acro of the Year.

Sarah Tse- ARAD, RAD RTS

Guided by dedication and passion, Sarah Tse has spent the past years expanding her knowledge of dance. Growing up in Langley, B.C., Sarah began her dance training at Morningstar Dance Academy then continued her studies at Deas Island Dance where she excelled in completing Royal Academy of Dance Graded examinations up to the Grade 8 award with Distinction as well as Vocational exams. She had the honour of performing the Solo Seal Award, which is the R.A.D highest level of vocational examinations. Sarah is a graduate of the Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies and is now a registered teacher with the R.A.D. Aside from performing onstage, Sarah had the opportunity to be cast a feature ballet role in the Lifetime channel film, Center Stage: On Pointe, released in 2016. Alongside her extensive ballet training, she is currently excelling in contemporary ballet. She has been training and performing with the contemporary dance company, Lamondance, under the guidance of Davi Rodrigues for two seasons. She recently performed with Lamondance at the annual International Dance Seminar in Brazil in the Summer of 2016.

Thys Armstrong

Thys Armstrong was born and raised in North Vancouver and began dancing at RNB at a very young age. There, he trained in Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Musical Theatre and was examined under the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in Modern, Jazz and Tap, eventually earning his Advanced-1 certification for Tap. Upon graduating, Thys moved to Ottawa to study at the University of Ottawa, where he also began teaching Tap, Jazz, and Ballet at various studios in the region. During his studies he also coached the UOttawa Dance Team, leading them to two 4th place national titles. Thys was also a performing member of the Ottawa Rhythm Initiative – this community of tap dancers and musicians collaborate with national and international artists to re-introduce tap dance as a musical art form. Since moving back to Vancouver, Thys has furthered his classical ballet training by joining Coastal City Ballet, under the instruction of artistic director Li Yaming. There, he has had the opportunity to work with choreographers like Josh Beamish, Wen Wei Wang, Irene Schneider, Erica Trivett, Rhonda Cooper, and more. Professionally, Thys has been featured in the film “Centre Stage: On Pointe,” and has worked closely on many independent dance projects with choreographer and teacher, Monica Proença. Thys was hired as a dancer for the opening number of the National WeDay 2013, and as a choreographer for the National WeDay 2014. Recently, Thys has begun developing his interests in choreography. While teaching in Ottawa, he was awarded two overall choreography awards at Rhythm Dance Competition and Strive University Dance Challenge. 

Catherine Andersen

Catherine discovered dance in her teens, and was immediately hooked. She began her training in South Delta with ballet and jazz, and received her Dance Diploma at Edmonton’s Grant MacEwan College Dance Program in 2002, under the skilled contemporary dance instruction of Heidi Bunting and Brian Webb, and reputable ballet instructor Deborah Morgan. Catherine was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Contemporary Dance from Simon Fraser University in 2005, where she furthered her contemporary and ballet studies and added Graham and Cunningham modern technique to her training. After performing her own choreography at 12 Minutes Max in Vancouver, she was scouted to create a piece for Dances for a Small Stage, and her professional dance career snowballed from there.  She was soon after certified as a Pilates Mat Work instructor under Marta Hernandez at The Space, and also enjoys the benefits of yoga to keep her body healthy and present.  She was recently hired to teach Improvisation and Composition for the Anna Wyman School of Dance Arts Professional Training Program, and enjoys teaching improvisation to inspire and increase connection among dancers. She has danced professionally with numerous local choreographers and companies such as Mascall Dance and UK-based Sirenscrossing, and has toured Canada, the US and Europe.  In 2013, she was awarded a Canada Council for the Arts grant to perform at the Fallensdager festival in Sweden, for her third guest appearance with dance company Sirenscrossing. She currently teaches at The Dena Wosk School for Performing Arts, The Anna Wyman School of Dance Arts Professional Training Program, and numerous recreation centres. Catherine embraces a more holistic approach to technique, combining functional alignment with a creative and curious mind. She has been teaching students of all ages, from beginner to professional level for twenty years, and absolutely loves her job.

D'Alton McCarthy- Fitness & Conditioning

D'Alton McCarthy is a life long fitness enthusiast as well as a North Vancouver husband and father of two dancers. D'Alt started boxing at the young age of five and has been training people ages 4-84, for over 30 years. He became a government certified personal trainer in 2004. D'Alt  has enjoyed training people for pre and post operation rehab, special needs, pre and post natal, sports specific as well as boxing and self defense. Allison Keir - B.F.A Theatre

Allison is thrilled to join the amazing teaching staff at RNB Dance. She is a proud RNB dance mom and is excited to work with such wonderfully talented kids and teachers to bring musical theatre to life with live voices. Allison holds a BFA in theatre performance from UBC, trained with Young Opera Australia and was a resident performer with Rockdale Musical Society at Sydney’s Opera House. In her professional career she has performed in over 40 shows ranging from Shakespeare to Musical Theatre and Light Opera. In 2014 Allison was the vocal director for Miranda Musical Society’s production of Anne (in Sydney Australia) and currently is a Musical Director for Highlands United Productions musical theatre summer camps for children. When she is not singing and dancing, Allison is the Minister for Children, Youth and Families at Highlands United Church.
